Thanks for this write-up, it was really interesting to read. I’m also doing potato diet outside the SMTM study bc it seemed anecdotally so counterintuitive but well worth studying. I also love the idea of crowdsourced science bc it has the potential to be so much more nimble than anything requiring all the layers of approvals and funding etc.
I have a question for you: did you notice being physically overheated? I’ve been sweating much more than usual even taking into account that it’s hot as hell outside.
Nice to meet a fellow potato-doer. How’s it going for you?
I unfortunately(or fortunately for me) did not overheat on potato - if anything, I was slightly colder than normal/more able to handle hot weather. Not sure what’s happening there, but stay hydrated!!!
Thanks! I’m 55 so post-menopausal, which is probably a factor. Potato def seems to affect metabolic functions. I haven’t been doing it too hardcore and don’t have a scale, so I don’t know yet about weight loss. I’ve felt pretty good except for yesterday (day 7) I had a touch of the mood issue you were describing… not suicidal but irrationally enraged at things that normally wouldn’t bother me. Plus the sweating…
10: Maybe temperature is different enough between night and morning to affect the scale? A lot of machines suffer from thermal expansion that can throw off there accuracy without if being calibrated again. the easiest way to test this would be to take a known weight(preferably close to your weight but it might not be necessary) and put it on the scale at different times during the day along with recording the temperature. If the scale came with a manuscript you may find something there as well.
Now *this* is a theory I like, with an especially easy way to test. I do tend to keep the house colder at night, so that’s totally plausible. I am escrowing a dollar for you while I investigate.
Did you exercise during that period? If yes, how was the energy level before and after exercise?

Did you ever get an answer?
